State Recruiting for IT Security, Leadership Roles

The positions include a chief technology officer who'll also serve as a deputy chief information officer; a lead security specialist; and an enterprise project and procurement governance architect.

Several high-profile state agencies are recruiting for IT leaders in roles dealing with technology leadership and information security, among others.

The Secretary of State’s Office is accepting applications for the role (IT Manager II) of Chief Technology Officer, who also functions as Deputy Chief Information Officer, to oversee management of the agency’s data center. 

“The CTO performs at the mastery level of this career series,” the job posting says, “directing the most complex initiatives and initiating key actions on a wide variety of complex Data Center operations related tasks. The CTO will have seven direct reports including the System Engineering Manager, the Software Engineering Manager, the IT Governance Administrator, ITD Administrative Analyst, and the three Enterprise Architects. The CTO has oversight of the agency’s most complex and highly sensitive Enterprise Infrastructure Services, Enterprise Technology Services, Enterprise Client Services and Support, Enterprise Software Engineering Services, Cloud Services, and Data Center Operations and has direct authority for activities and tasks across all of the technology domains.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $9,262 to $11,258, and the recruitment will remain active until the position is filled.

The Department of General Services, the state’s lead procurement entity, is recruiting for a Lead Information Security Specialist (IT Specialist II) to work on “risk management, compliance management, systems security planning, development of security policies and procedures, and collaboration with security operations and other units within the Enterprise Technology Solutions (ETS) of DGS.” According to the job posting, the incumbent will help “ensure business success throughout all phases of the System/Software Development Life Cycle.”

The monthly salary range is $7,014 to $9,399, and the application deadline is March 17.

The state Department of Justice is recruiting for an Enterprise Project and Procurement Governance Architect (IT Specialist III) “to serve as an expert adviser and work as an expert within the Enterprise Services Branch to drive IT project management and procurement governance.” The ITS III “supports project management frameworks such as CA-Project Management Framework (PMF) and Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) to establish and maintain a governance and oversight model for technology projects within the department,” the job posting says. “The ITS III develops and maintains a procurement governance model that aligns with the State Administrative Manual (SAM), the State Information Management Model (SIMM), and state procurement policies and is responsible for driving the bureau’s information technology project portfolio, project management, and procurement governance model.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,732 to $10,362, and the application deadline is March 24.

The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery is recruiting for an IT leader (IT Manager I) who will be responsible for oversight of the Software Project Management, Software Development, and Web Services sections. “This position is responsible for ensuring overall IT software application planning and delivery, compliance with control agency directives, managing and meeting stakeholders expectations, and implementation of the department’s mission and policy directives,” the job posting says. “The incumbent will develop and monitor IT governance and project portfolio, strategic roadmap and budget, and report the progress of all IT software application projects. The ITM I acts as a team leader and/or independently performs complex studies and activities in connection with portfolio management, resource management, and business process re-engineering and organizational change management.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,634 to $10,230, and the application deadline is March 20.
