On July 1, instead of the California Technology Agency, or CTA, we will have the California Department of Technology. Secretary Carlos Ramos said this week they are still looking for a moniker, perhaps "Cal Tech" or something catchy-like. Have any suggestions? This week, we broke the news on two high-profile CTA officials that will be retiring from state service in the coming months. Undersecretary Anna Brannen will retire at the end of August and Assistant Secretary Gregory Franklinwill retire at the end of September. Congrats to both on a distinguished career in public service and well-deserved retirement!
Technology Agency Assistant Secretary Christine Lally has been appointed to serve as deputy director in the Department of Consumer Affairs, Governor Brown announced today. Good luck Christine!
In other news, we saw on Twitter that global IT firm CGI has been busy this spring sponsoring local charities such as the Sacramento Children’s Home Haute Stuff fundraiser, River City Food Bank’s Empty Bowls event, CSUS Business School Awards Banquet and the MitoKids 5k Walk. Techwire proudly announced this week that former Assemblymember Lloyd Levine has joined the teamas a contributor for the website and printed magazine. Representing the 40th Assembly District in southern California, Levine, 43, served as the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Commerce. Among the measures he authored was the Digital Infrastructure and Video Competition Act, which de-regulated the video and telecommunications industry in an attempt to help them compete with current technology.

With former FCC and CPUC Commissioner Rachelle Chong as a columnist, Techwire now has two former public officials on board. Chong is currently on assignment overseas covering broadband and other related issues in Europe.
