Tech Moves: Breakout Sessions, City CIOs, Latinos, San Diego Futures Foundation, Kiefer Consultants & more

The California Technology Agency announced that Office of Public Safety Communications Director Karen Wong has been appointed by Attorney General Kamala Harris to serve on the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) Advisory Committee. The committee advises the AG on data collection, storage and security for CLETS which is California’s network for state, local and federal law enforcement information systems.

The agency also announced that California has received an A- grade by the Center for Digital Government in its annual states survey. California was one of eight states to earn an "A- or better" for its use of technology in state government. Congrats California!

The Sacramento chapter of Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association (LISTA) has been formed to bring together state and private Latino IT staff, according to the organization’s local president Jorge Avila. The group’s mission is to “educate, motivate and encourage the use of technology for the empowerment of the Latino community in order to conquer the digital divide.” See the group’s Linkedin page here.

The San Diego Futures Foundation announced that Gary Knight has joined the organization as its new executive director. Knight will take over for Jeff Hancock who in 1999 helped start the nonprofit that is working to bridge the digital divide in San Diego by helping low-income households, people with disabilities and seniors.

Folsom-based Kiefer Consulting has announced a number of new additions to the fast-growing firm including:

Barry Boudreau who recently joined Kiefer as the chief technology officer after spending the last 12 years at Microsoft. Boudreau was a global technical architect for Intel products and a SharePoint technical specialist.

Alan McBee, senior .Net consultant started this month to work on the CARES project at CA Victims Compensation and Government Claims Board.

Sean Hansen, has been promoted to director of operations after joining the firm last year as the lead on SharePoint and Mobile delivery. Hansen once served as an architect for the United Kingdom’s Tax System and worked on California’s first statewide child support disbursement and CalWIN solutions.

Mark Collins was hired as a senior .NET and SharePoint consultant. Collins previously served as SharePoint Administrator and Developer at CSU Chico.

Scott Morrison, solution architect, recently joined the Kiefer team after working for the past five years specializing in SharePoint, .NET, and Business Intelligence. Morrison is in the process of relocating to California from St. Louis, MO.
