Tech Moves: Charity Golf, Digital Cities, NASCIO Survey and M Corp buys a building

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) recently issued a survey of its state members’ most critical policy and technology issues facing state government.   At the top of the list are:  consolidation, cloud services, security, budget, health care and mobile services.   Read the survey here.

Sacramento-based M Corp is moving to the century-old Regis Building across the street from the State Capitol.  The IT consulting firm is one of the partners that purchased the $4 million, five-level building that sits at the southwest corner of 11th and K streets facing the historic Cathedral.

"The Regis Building provides our company with the space we need to continue to grow, while experiencing firsthand and contributing to the revitalization of K Street," said M Corp partner Alex Castro.

M Corp will move into the top floor of the 27,000-square-foot building early next year after modernizing the office space.

"M Corp is a fast-growing company with employees who will spend money at downtown businesses and contribute to Sacramento’s economy," Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said in the announcement.

Currently anchored by Ambrosia Cafe on the ground floor, the building was the former Regis Hotel and was once owned by The Ram Company, named after the ram heads on the top of the structure.

ENS, Inc. Vice President Chad Hodges said that last week’s inaugural Veteran’s Day golf tournament was a huge success despite the short amount of time it took to come together.  Hodges, who served eight years in the Marine Corps, said he was inspired after visiting a friend, a formerly wheel chair bound veteran, just five weeks before the holiday.  More than 200 people participated, raising thousands of dollars for the Citrus Heights Vet Center.       “The turnout was greater than we could have ever imagined,” said Hodges who has decided to make it an annual event.   The funds will help benefit the center’s efforts to provide counseling, support and even pay for activities such as bowling with friends and family.

The Center for Digital Government has released its annual Digital Cities Survey with six California municipalities ranking in the top ten in two categories.    According to the Center, the cities showed that consolidating and enabling shared services created significant cost savings, tools to engage citizens and improved services, among other factors.

"Cities that are investing in technology are seeing tremendous cost savings that are critical to operations and their ability to meet higher demand for services," said Todd Sander, executive director for the Center. "These cities are true innovators and we applaud them as they work in the spirit of collaboration to provide extraordinary value to constituents despite budget setbacks."

California cities that made the top ten are:

(250,000 or more population)

2nd – Riverside

8th – Sacramento

9th – Long Beach

10th – Fresno

(125,000 – 249,999 population)

4th – Chula Vista

8th – Modesto
