TechAmerica has hired Kara Bush as its director of state government affairs for the Western region, the organization announced Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Kara Bush
Bush will lead TechAmerica’s Western Region State Government Affairs program and serve as lead lobbyist on policy issues before state legislatures and government agencies in the Western Region, which includes California and nine other states.
Policy areas of note in the West include privacy, e-commerce, education and workforce development, energy and environment, tax, procurement, and emerging technologies, TechAmerica said.
First formed in 2009, TechAmerica has positioned itself to take a bigger role in state and local government after IT trade association CompTIA acquired it earlier this year.
Prior to joining CompTIA, Bush served as senior legislative director of government affairs and public policy for the California Restaurant Association, where she oversaw all state and regulatory affairs.
Bush, who has worked in California’s public policy arena for more than a decade, also has served as a lobbyist for the California Grocers Association, as a policy consultant for former State Assembly Member Martin Garrick and as a legislative assistant for the California Department of Insurance and the Franchise Tax Board.
Bush holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from California State University, Sacramento, and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Boston University.
