TechAmerica, a national technology trade association, announced that Senator Alex Padilla (D – Van Nuys) has been chosen as the organization’s California Legislator of the Year for 2012.
Padilla has authored several bills related to the technology industry in the past year, including regulations on autonomous vehicles and preventing state control over voice-over Internet protocol (VoIP) communication services like Skype.
In addition to Padilla, four other legislators received recognition for their work on technology legislation. Assemblyman Henry T. Perea (D – Fresno), Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan (D – San Ramon), Senator Michael J. Rubio (D – Shafter) and Assemblyman Brian Jones (R – Santee) were also recognized as California Tech Champions for 2012.
"These legislators recognize that the economy grows where tech grows and have consistently advocated for policies that help to maintain the prestige and strength of California’s technology industry," said Robert Callahan, TechAmerica Director of State Government Affairs for California. "We are honored to present them with our California legislative awards for 2012."
TechAmerica will also be communicating with the California Legislature through their Tech Tuesday program announced on Tuesday. The program will be a weekly communication to all of the Sacramento Capitol offices discussing the technology industry. Yesterday’s Tech Tuesday included a seminar on using social media.
