The California state Legislature is back in session and in full swing. Techwire is already tracking more than a dozen bills that, if passed, could impact technology policy, state IT systems, innovation, privacy or cybersecurity.
There's everything from a bill that would require schools to teach students to spot fake online news, to legislation that would require state government entities to provide identify theft protection services at no cost to affected consumers if the government is the source of a breach. There's a proposal that would streamline responsibilities under the purview of the California Public Utilities Commission, another bill that would create an Entrepreneur-in-Residence program within government departments, and at least two pieces of legislation that would "firewall" personal data of undocumented immigrants from the federal government.
We will be updating our Legislative Tracker with the latest information about these bills, and adding much more data as lawmakers introduce more bills as 2017 goes along. The database is available only to Insider members. As always, you can find the tracker under the Insider Tools tab on the Techwire website. Here's where to find it.
