Thomas Boon, a veteran of state service, has been tapped to lead the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s (CDCR) Enterprise Information Services Division as its director.

He takes over the role from former CDCR CIO Edmond Blagdon, who stepped down earlier this year. He officially took the role April 6, the CDCR press office confirmed.

Boon is no stranger to the department, having served for more than 12 years in a range of technical roles that include staff programmer, senior programmer analyst and software engineer/technical architect.

Most recently, he served as the CIO of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). He was with GO-Biz for nearly 13 years.

Earlier in his state career, Boon also held associate programmer analyst positions first with CDCR, then with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

He is a graduate of the IT Leadership Academy (ITLA) and holds a Bachelor of Arts in international relations from the University of San Diego.
