Tracking the Spend: $15.6M for CAL FIRE’s Top 5 Buys of IT Services

From July 1 through Dec. 31, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spent $15,642,736 on its five largest buys, which were primarily related to communications.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) spent $15.6 million in the second half of last year on its five largest purchases of IT services.

According to the State Contracting and Procurement Registration System, CAL FIRE spent $15,642,736 from July 1 through Dec. 31 on its five largest buys. They were for:
  • $13,358,095 for “Year 2 FY23 radio mobile maintenance and support contract” with RadioMobile Inc., in a Dec. 14 competitive small-business contract.
  • $999,773 for “Monthly data plan fee (275KB) … for FY 23-24 Term: 6/1/2023 to 5/31/2024,” in an Oct. 18 small-business competitive contract with GovMobile LLC.
  • $498,775 for “Agency Level Validation EMS, Service dates 7/1/23-6/30/24,” awarded to ImageTrend Inc. in an Aug. 10 competitively bid contract.
  • $400,000 for “Metro Area Network Ethernet for multiple locations statewide,” in a Nov. 30 competitively bid contract with Comcast.
  • $386,093 for “Metro Area Network Ethernet for multiple locations statewide,” in a July 17 competitively bid contract with Comcast.

By comparison, CAL FIRE spent $24,912,901 on its five largest buys of IT services in the first half of 2023.
