Tracking the Spend: $18.4M for CHP’s Top 5 IT Buys in Q4

One year earlier, in the fourth quarter of 2023, CHP’s five largest buys of IT goods totaled $22.4 million. The agency’s five largest purchases of IT goods in 2024 totaled $33.2 million.

The California Highway Patrol spent $18.4 million on its five largest purchases of IT goods in the fourth quarter of 2024, less than the total of the corresponding buys in Q3 of 2023.

CHP is part of the California State Transportation Agency, which also encompasses the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the High-Speed Rail Authority and a host of other entities.

From Oct. 1-Dec. 31, CHP’s top five buys of IT goods totaled $18,405,980, according to the State Contract and Procurement Registration System. Those purchases were:
  • $8.6 million for all-band portable radios, in a Dec. 10 contract with Motorola Solutions Inc. that was awarded under a statewide contract.
  • $2.8 million for an upgrade and annual maintenance fee for an enterprise mobile mapping implementation — a tool that can capture thousands of data points per second. The Oct. 11 contract with Taborda Solutions Inc. was awarded under the Software Licensing Program (SLP).
  • $2.5 million for HP notebook computers, awarded Dec. 4 under a statewide contract to NWN Solutions Corp.
  • $2.3 million for an enterprise license agreement for Palo Alto Networks, purchased Oct. 24 under the SLP from Savant Solutions Inc.
  • $2.2 million for Cisco Catalyst routers, purchased Nov. 18 on a statewide contract from Presidio Holdings Inc.
