Tracking the Spend: $33.2M for CHP's 5 Largest Buys of IT Goods in 2024

Last year's five largest buys totaled more than the $31.3 million spend on the corresponding buys in 2023. In-car video cameras were the most expensive buys both years.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) spent a little more than $33 million on its five largest buys of IT goods in 2024, an incremental increase over 2023’s corresponding total of about $31 million. Five companies accounted for the five largest contracts both years.

According to the State Contract and Procurement Registration System, CHP spent $33,212,714 on its five largest buys from Jan. 1-Dec. 31 last year. Those contracts were for:
  • $15 million for in-car video cameras, in a March 5 statewide contract with Coban Technologies Inc.
  • $8.6 million for all-band portable radios, in a Dec. 10 statewide contract with Motorola Solutions Inc.
  • $3.4 million for a records management system in a one-year contract with Visionary Integration Professionals LLC. The contract, dated Sept. 20, runs from Dec. 1, 2024, through Nov. 30, 2025, and was awarded on a non-competitive basis because it’s proprietary maintenance.
  • $3.2 million for Aruba switch hardware in a May 9 statewide contract with NWN Solutions Corp.
  • $3 million for all-band portable radios in a May 9 statewide contract with Motorola Solutions Inc.
From Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2023, CHP spent $31,368,106 on its five largest buys of IT goods. Those five contracts were for:
  • $11.1 million for in-car video cameras in a March 21 statewide contract with Coban Technologies Inc.
  • $8.6 million for radio equipment in a Nov. 7 statewide contract with Motorola Solutions Inc.
  • $5.2 million for HP notebook computers in a Nov. 3 statewide contract with NWN Solutions Corp.
  • $3. 5 million for Analytics BS Suite Viewer in an Oct. 5 contract with Visionary Integration Professionals LLC under the Software Licensing Program (SLP) that ran from Sept. 28, 2023, through Nov. 30, 2024.
  • $2.9 million for Tritech VisiCAD software in an Oct. 11 SLP contract with OPTM.
