Tracking the Spend: CHP Spent $4.7M on IT Goods in Second Quarter of 2023

In the just-ended second quarter, CHP’s five largest buys of IT goods included radios, stereo microscope equipment, an Internet phone system and other hardware.

The California Highway Patrol spent just under $5 million in its five largest purchases of IT goods in the second quarter of 2023.

According to the State Contracting and Procurement Registration System, CHP spent $4,794,381, with rounding, from April 1 through June 30 on its five largest buys.

In the first quarter of 2023, by contrast, CHP spent $14,615,388 on its five largest purchases of IT goods, more than the corresponding spend in the previous two quarters combined. In the fourth quarter of 2022, the CHP spent $9,310,027, and in the third quarter it spent just over $4.1 million.

In a recent briefing for Industry Insider — California members, the CHP’s chief information officer, Chief April Baxter, outlined her department’s ongoing and wide-ranging IT modernization plans.

In the just-ended second quarter of 2023, CHP’s five largest buys of IT goods included radios, stereo microscope equipment, an Internet phone system and other hardware. The five largest purchases, all of which occurred in June, were:
  • $999,930 for all-band radios with special features, in a June 14 contract with Motorola Solutions Inc. under a statewide contract
  • $999,666 for a Cisco Internet phone system, purchased June 16 from Presidio Networked Solutions Group under a statewide contract
  • $998,364 for HP notebook computers, purchased June 15 from NWN Solutions Corp. under a statewide contract
  • $997,891 for an antenna radar package, purchased June 7 from Stalker Radar under an informal competitive contract
  • $801,530 for a Brasstrax Acquisition Station, a stereo microscope and a color printer, with warranty, in a June 15 non-competitive contract with Forensic Technology Inc.
