Tracking the Spend: CHP’s Largest Buys of IT Goods Include Cameras, Laptops

The department’s five largest buys of IT goods from Jan. 1 through March 31 together totaled $15,244,852 with rounding.

The California Highway Patrol spent $15.2 million in the first quarter of 2022 on its five largest purchases of IT goods, with rear-facing cameras making up the largest portion of that spend.

According to the State Contract and Procurement Registration System, CHP’s purchases included the cameras as well as automatic license plate readers, laptops, routers and tech support. The five largest buys together totaled $15,244,852 with rounding. Those five purchases were:
  • $10,418,937 for patrol car cameras, in a contract awarded March 24 to Coban Technologies Inc. under a statewide contract.
  • $1,925,814 for HP laptops, purchased Feb. 25 through NWN Corp. under a statewide contract.
  • $1,062,746 for Microsoft Unified Advanced Support, purchased Feb. 3 from Crayon Software Experts under the software licensing program.
  • $1,037,362 for AutoVu Sharp automatic license plate readers, purchased Jan. 20 through PCS Mobile under a statewide contract.
  • $799,993 for IBR1700 routers with Wi-Fi, purchased Jan. 10 from AT&T Corp. under a statewide contract.
