Tracking the Spend: Public Health’s Top IT Goods Purchases Through June

The department’s five largest transactions for IT goods during the year’s first and second quarters nearly reached $11 million.

The state department responsible for safeguarding residents’ health and helping create “positive health outcomes” for people, families and communities made 223 purchases of IT goods from Jan. 1-June 30 and spent nearly $11 million on the top five.

The California Department of Public Health spent $10,576,741 on its five most expensive such purchases, most of which happened in March. Here, with rounding, is what that money paid for, based on data in the State Contracting and Procurement Registration System:

  • $2.7 million to NWN Solutions for Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s XP8 hybrid storage array. CDPH made the purchase March 1.
  • $2.1 million to Natix for Microsoft Platinum Surface Pro 8 devices that blend laptop and tablet capabilities. The department made the purchase Feb. 28.
  • $2 million to onPar Advisors for Veritas’ NetBackup Platform Base and maintenance. This is a more than two-year contract, from Jan. 20-March 30, 2024.
  • $2 million to Enterprise Networking Solutions for Rubrik r6416s four-node 192-terabyte Network Storage Appliances, Rubrik Go Foundation Edition for r6416, maintenance and support. CDPH made the purchase March 11. (Taborda Solutions and Enterprise Networking Solutions were purchased in August 2021 by Fulcrum Technology Group.)
  • $1.9 million to Zones for “performance support” for Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Azure Platform as a Service and Rapid Response and other software. The department made the purchase March 25.
