Tracking the Spend: State Hospitals’ Five Largest Buys of IT Goods

The department’s five largest purchases of IT goods during the first half of 2023 totaled about $10.6 million and included license agreements and other items.

The California Department of State Hospitals (DSH), whose five state hospitals provide mental health services to admitted patients, spent roughly $10.6 million on its five largest buys of IT goods in the first half of 2023.

According to the State Contracting and Procurement Registration System, DHS spent $10,630,079 on the five largest buys of IT goods, which included license agreements and other items. They include:
  • $4,920,578 for a renewal (FY 2022-23) of its VMware enterprise license agreement, in a March 13 statewide contract that runs through April 30, 2026, with Kovarus Inc.
  • $1,583,742 for Cisco software support service, in a Jan. 20 statewide contract with Presidio Networked Solutions Group.
  • $1,540,155 for a one-year “Enterprise License Agreement, Enterprise Support Agreement and Platinum Support, Extended Expertise” in a March 31 contract with Kovarus Inc. that expires March 30, 2024. The contract was under the state Software Licensing Program (SLP).
  • $1,460,964 for year one of an on-premises Care Staffer License for up to 100 users, expandable to 500, in an exempt contract with Care Systems Inc. that runs through Jan. 3, 2024.
  • $1,124,640 for “Unified Enterprise Support” in a one-year SLP contract with Zones LLC that runs through Feb. 23, 2024.
