Tracking the Spend: State Tax Board’s Five Largest Tech Buys in Q1

The Franchise Tax Board spent just over $4.5 million on its five biggest buys of IT goods in the first three months of 2023.

The state Franchise Tax Board (FTB) spent just over $4.5 million on its five largest purchases of IT goods in the first quarter of 2023.

According to the State Contracting and Procurement Registration System, FTB spent $4,592,564, with rounding, on those tech buys. The board, which collects state personal income tax and corporate franchise and income tax, is part of the California Government Operations Agency.

The five largest buys of IT goods in the first quarter of the year were:
  • $1,799,865 for networking-related hardware and accessories, included in a March 30 statewide contract with Enterprise Networking Solutions Inc. (now Optm).
  • $1,007,319 for uninterruptible power supplies and related equipment, in a Feb. 27 competitively bid contract with EDP Environments Inc.
  • $833,715 for a Red Hat Learning subscription that was awarded Feb. 1 and which runs through March 25, 2024. The contract, awarded under the state Software Licensing Program (SLP), was with Allied Network Solutions.
  • $703,666 for Cisco Firepower firewalls for Edge, in a March 17 statewide contract with NWN Solutions Corp.
  • $247,999 for an Invariant support services subscription, in a Jan. 31 contract with Infinite Solutions Inc. that was awarded under a competitive small-business option.
