The Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) published this update recently, explaining how it’s using social media and other approaches in recruiting.
On Feb. 14, the Department of FISCal (FI$Cal) hosted FI$Cal Insider, a half-hour live tweet recruitment event on Twitter. During the event, staff from the department’s Human Resources Office and Enterprise Security Services Office (ESSO) were available to answer questions submitted by the public and provide resources, tips and tricks around state hiring practices.
Last year, the department received approval to hire 64 new positions as part of the Spring Finance Letter budget process. To support this effort, FI$Cal has actively recruited for job openings, including hosting a job fair in fall of 2022. The department has job openings in the areas of information technology, cybersecurity, accounting, administration and more.
The intent of the FI$Cal Insider events is to help potential applicants by demystifying the hiring process and connecting potential applicants to subject matter experts in the areas of state hiring and specific job opportunities. Some resources provided during the event included FI$Cal’s recently launched careers webpage, which includes “how to” resources on all steps of the hiring process, as well as helpful application tips, such as how to craft a statement of qualification, and leveraging the qualifications listed in a job post to improve your application.
Another purpose is to share current job openings, and to have hiring managers on hand who can answer questions about these openings. During the recent FI$Cal Insider, staff from the ESSO were available to answer questions and share current job postings. The ESSO is responsible for FI$Cal’s governance, risk and compliance, with security and threat detection activities. ESSO strives to support FI$Cal with innovative technology infrastructure managed by skilled technical staff.
Interested participants can watch FI$Cal’s social media accounts on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook for information on future FI$Cal Insider dates. To view past FI$Cal Insider posts, search #FISCalInsider on Twitter.
