The cloud application monitoring and security firm Datadog has a new strategic account executive in veteran technologist Herman Chao.

New York-based Datadog is a cloud observability and security provider that integrates and automates infrastructure monitoring, application performance monitoring, log management, cloud security and more.

Chao, who is based in the greater Sacramento area, most recently worked as a senior account executive for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and spent nearly a decade in multiple roles with Cisco before that. He has also held several more technical and account-related roles at Brocade, QLogic, Hewlett-Packard and others.

“I really believe the solution and offering is a great match for where the state is going or where the public sector wants to be … especially with the state initiatives of moving to a hybrid, multicloud model,” Chao told Industry Insider.

“They really need a technology and solution like Datadog to deliver on the user experience that we want to provide our residents,” he added.

Chao’s business and technical experience has been useful throughout his career in helping his government and education clients navigate toward successful technology deployments and meeting the needs of their customers.

“Herman is a true force multiplier — part strategist, part technologist, and fully committed to customer success,” said Ryan Gault, director of enterprise sales for SLED East at Datadog. “He understands the challenges state and local IT leaders face today and has a proven track record of guiding agencies through complex decisions. His leadership will help California agencies with the visibility and control they need to modernize with confidence and stay mission-focused."

He holds a Master of Business Administration in finance and marketing and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, Davis. When he’s not at work, Chao enjoys spending time with his family and time on the greens.
