The make-or-break issue facing companies this year is the need for more collaboration among the C-suite to focus on the evolving role of business as a driver of change. All eyes are on business to fill a widening leadership gap and engineer solutions to critical social challenges—85 percent of respondents said it was important or very important for the C-suite to work together to tackle complex issues. At the same time, 73 percent said their C-suite rarely, if ever, works together on strategic initiatives.
Other major trends reflect concerns about careers in the 21st century, particularly considering automation, the need for new skills, an aging workforce, tightening labor markets, and the need to manage an entire ecosystem of workers.
