Each day its population swells as executives, engineers, and athletes flood the 405 to make their impacts in work or play. But while the City acts as a hub for technology and progress, one critical function remained stuck in a bygone era: permitting.
For years, getting a permit in El Segundo came with paper forms, long waits, and frustration. Missing forms were a constant, answers changed depending on who you asked, and a simple application could easily turn into a wild goose chase through various departments, each with its own rules, processing times, and version of the truth.
Then came the wake-up call.
The onset of COVID-19 forced City Hall to rethink how it served the community. With limited in-person visits and economic uncertainty looming, one thing became clear: El Segundo couldn’t afford to stay in the past any longer. The City needed a more innovative, faster, and more reliable way to manage permits, and they needed it now.
It’s not just a vendor-client relationship, it feels like we’re part of a community with OpenGov and other cities. We’re all in it together.
