Donations and delivery of critical supplies and innovative technology

The Los Angeles-area communities impacted by the recent wildfires are home to many of our Amazon employees and their families and friends. We’re concerned about the impact these fires are having on communities throughout Los Angeles, and today we’re committing $10 million to the relief efforts. This donation comes from our entertainment division (which includes Amazon MGM Studios, Prime Video, and Amazon Music), Ring, and Whole Foods Market.

Our commitment will go directly to national and local disaster and response organizations including the American Red Cross of Southern California, FireAid, MusiCares Fire Relief Effort, World Central Kitchen, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, Habitat for Los Angeles Wildfire Fund, and Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Small Business Relief/Recovery Fund, among others, as well as in-kind advertising opportunities on Prime Video for nonprofits supporting LA fire relief efforts.

To date, we have donated over 145,000 essential items to 17 local organizations working on wildfire response, including fire stations, community fire brigades, the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Los Angeles Unified School District, Dream Center, and multiple YMCA chapters, and we expect donations to continue. We’re also deploying our AWS cloud technology, including drone support, to help emergency responders better understand and react to the evolving wildfire situation.

Examples of what we’ve delivered include:
  • 30,000 items to the Los Angeles County Salvation Army, including water, sports drinks, juice for kids, and snacks.
  • 5,000 shelter items (shower chairs, toddler beds), over 300 wildfire response items (gloves, goggles, boots, respirators, shovels, rakes, axes, smoke pumps, sifters, and medical items for burns and heat) and gift cards to the American Red Cross.
  • Amazon gift cards to Los Angeles Unified School District to support the replenishment of materials for teachers who lost their classrooms in the fire.
  • Amazon gift cards to the YMCLA to support procurement of diabetic-friendly food, baby formula, reusable bags/grocery bags, luggage, and sleeping equipment (blankets, sleeping bags, air mattresses) for the distribution they are doing on-site.
  • 1,000 items like water, drinks, electrolyte packets, and protein snacks to the City of LA to support multiple fire stations.
  • Over 1,000 items to the Malibu/LA Community Fire Brigades to support their efforts in wildfire containment and mitigation across the county.
  • 13 pallets of ready-to-eat meals, baby food, canned protein, and snacks to the Dream Center from Amazon Fresh, and Amazon Local Good.
  • Fresh protein from Amazon Fresh to a local restaurant to serve 1000 meals to residents.
  • Charging stations, water, and coffee from Amazon Fresh Stores to the Encino, Ladera Heights, and Thousand Oaks communities.
  • Food, water, non-perishable items, toiletries, and pet food from Whole Foods Market to Venice Family Clinic, which will distribute it to shelters and local partners via its Nourishing Our Neighborhoods van.
Amazon is also curating opportunities for its employees in Southern California to volunteer with organizations like the LA Regional Food Bank and LA Unified School district, among others.

How Amazon is helping communities across LA County

As devastating wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles, our hearts go out to all those affected by this natural disaster. Amazon is deeply concerned about the impact these fires are having on our employees, their families, and the broader community. We are taking immediate action to provide support and relief during this challenging time.

Here’s everything Amazon is doing to help communities affected by the wildfires in Southern California:

Prioritizing safety

Our top priority is ensuring the safety of our employees and partners. We have a 24/7 operation dedicated to providing alerts and up-to-date information when severe events like this occur to help inform our operational decisions. As we closely monitor the situation, we’re also mobilizing our resources to support those in need.

Delivering critical supplies and innovative technology support

Amazon has been working with first responders, nonprofit partners, and humanitarian relief agencies on the ground in Los Angeles including the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Dream Center, International Medical Corps, World Central Kitchen, among others. We’re leveraging our recently opened Wildfire Relief Hub—located two hours east of LA and stocked with over 6,000 essential items—as well as our logistics infrastructure and technology, to deliver essential items to these organizations based on their needs. In addition to the Wildfire Relief Hub, we’ve also shipped Amazon-donated items from across our supply chain network in LA County.

The thousands of vital supplies and items we’re delivering include:
  • Wildfire mitigation equipment such as axes, goggles, masks, rakes, shovels, smoke pumps, soil sifters, and shelter kits.
  • Personal supplies crucial for those who are going back to their communities including fire-safe rubber boots, high-particulate-matter filtration respirators, hydration packets, neck gaiters, specialized gloves, and trauma kits.
  • Water, baby food, canned and dry goods, pet food, and other critical supplies.
We’re also collaborating with local partners and emergency response agencies to assess technology needs—this includes providing our AWS cloud technology that can be used for advanced situational awareness support, aerial imagery collection and processing. This response also builds on the recent donation of wildfire-management equipment we donated to the Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Foundation to replenish supplies used by first responders following the recent Franklin Fire containment efforts in Malibu.

Limiting customer disruption

Additionally, with the temporary closing of some Amazon facilities—and likely damage to roads and other infrastructure—there may be impacts to customers in the region. We will utilize our national network of storage and delivery to fulfill customer orders when it’s safe to do so from outside the affected region. We will adjust delivery estimates as the wildfires’ impact becomes clearer, so customers can have the most accurate information on when their packages will arrive. Customers will see updated delivery times for their specific orders, and are encouraged to contact our 24/7 Customer Service teams for additional assistance.
