What’s New in SharePoint 2016 (On-Premise) for IT Pros

Microsoft’s Ignite conference just ended and we were treated to a firehose of information of what’s coming in the next iteration of SharePoint Online and on premise. Since so many customers will continue to use the platform in an on premise or hybrid scenario, we thought it would be good to cover the most interesting new features for the IT Professional.

Microsoft’s Ignite conference just ended and we were treated to a firehose of information of what’s coming in the next iteration of SharePoint Online and on premise. Since so many customers will continue to use the platform in an on premise or hybrid scenario, we thought it would be good to cover the most interesting new features for the IT Professional.

Many of these features discussed here are already baked into the product and demonstrable today, and many of what’s discussed below are design goals (such as the scalability goals). One thing is clear, however, is that development of the SharePoint platform is a cloud-first model, branched to the on premise code, and much of the new features are based on the learnings from delivering SharePoint Online.
