Techwire is tracking the latest tech-related work mentioned during Covered California's most recent board meeting held on Thursday, Oct. 27. Here's a synopsis:

  • The Covered California Board has approved an interagency agreement with the Department of Social Services for cost sharing on major IT systems. Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee said the agreement entails the interfaces for the California Healthcare Eligibility, Enrollment and Retention System (CalHEERS) and the Statewide Automated Welfare System (SAWS), for the Medicaid program operated by counties.
  • The board also approved a competitive process to procure new Microsoft tools for the Covered California office, Lee said.
  • On Oct. 18, Covered California released an RFP seeking a low-cost solution "to track and monitor the elements required for a successful Form 700 management system." Bids for that solution are due today, Nov. 1. All elected officials and public employees in California who make or influence governmental decisions are required to submit a Statement of Economic Interest, also known as Form 700.
  • Consumers will face a new online experience when comparing and selecting a health-care plan during Covered Covered California's 2017 open enrollment period.

"Millions of people use our CalHEERS system — otherwise known as CoveredCA.com — to help them not just understand if they're eligible for Medi-Cal or Covered California, but then to choose a plan," Lee said

Covered California, the Department of Health Care Services and the Office of Systems Integration spent much of the last year working on a very significant upgrade of decision support tools that will be available to consumers when choosing health-care plans, officials said.
