Teacher Credentialing Commission Creating New CIO Position

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing says it's creating a new CIO position after previously not having an officially designated chief information officer.

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing says it's creating a new CIO position after previously not having an officially designated chief information officer.

Darren Addington, the commission's director of the Enterprise Technology and Services Section, has served as the de facto CIO for several years, and continues to work for the commission.

Those who wish to apply for the commission's new Career Executive Assignment (CEA) CIO position may do so on the CalHR website. The final filing date is Nov. 17.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Teacher Credentialing reports that it has completed more than two-thirds of a multi-pronged overhaul of its IT systems.

The $6.5 million project includes a data warehouse and data visualizations, an updated website and Web presence, development of data dashboards, and enhancements to the commission’s existing credentialing systems, called CASE and CTC Online.

In late 2015, the commission finalized a nearly $1 million IT consulting contract with Granite Bay, Calif.-based BM Associates Inc. for work on the CASE and CTC Online enhancements. The improvements will link the existing systems to the data warehouse, improve user friendliness and security, and result in more accurate data. According to state records, in October the commission contracted with Estrada Consulting in Sacramento for design and deployment of the dashboards and data warehouse.

The project, scheduled to be completed in 2017, is the first to be fully managed by the California Department of Technology's Project Management Office.
