Austin is seeking information to develop a solicitation for wireless messaging.
According to Austin’s request for information, the city, Travis County, the Austin Independent School District and the University of Texas at Austin are part of a wireless messaging coalition. Those entities are interested in merging their individual messaging systems into one.
This new system would provide messaging among these partner employees and contractors and key public, private and nongovernmental agency business partners in the Austin-Travis County region. The system would be available for use by any governmental agency in Austin or Travis County.
The proposed system would not be designed to provide widespread general messaging to the public. The coalition is conducting a request for information (RFI) due at 2 p.m. June 17 with vendors to ascertain technology and the commensurate cost to support the coalition needs.
Information collected from the responses to this RFI will support the coalition to finalize budgeting and other requirements for future bidding.
Interested vendors may also be offered the opportunity to make presentations to the coalition’s wireless messaging team as part of the RFI process. Additionally, the coalition may request additional information or documentation as part of this process.
