The city of Austin is researching real-time multilingual interpretation platforms powered by artificial intelligence to improve language access across its operations.
In a request for information (RFI), the city asks qualified vendors to share details on their capabilities, costs and implementation models for a potential pilot program. The four-month pilot would support live AI interpretation and captioning services during both virtual and in-person public meetings and events.
The city’s goal is to identify a platform that can support real-time language translation across departments, boards and commissions.
Vendors are being asked to provide information on their experience working with public agencies, including details on language availability, captioning accuracy, AI model functionality and platform compatibility with video conferencing tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Webex. The city also wants to understand how tools might support in-person settings and hybrid formats, along with any training or technical support that would be provided during the pilot.
Other requested details include data security standards, user privacy protections, performance metrics and analytics dashboards. Vendors are also encouraged to share sample reports, feedback tools and examples of current or past public-sector clients using their platforms.
