Austin Water has named Divya Rathanlal as its new chief information officer.
Rathanlal has worked for the city of Austin since 2008, most recently serving as interim deputy CIO for infrastructure and operations. Her previous roles with the city include interim deputy CIO for enterprise applications and project support, corporate information technology manager for Austin Digital Service and emerging technology program manager.
Her background spans technology leadership, service design, product management and strategic planning. Prior to joining the city of Austin, Rathanlal spent five years as IT manager for enterprise web and application services, and earlier in her career worked as a software engineer for Infosys Technologies.
In a LinkedIn post, Rathanlal expressed gratitude to her former team at the Communications and Technology Management Department.
“You didn’t just do the work — you lived the mission,” she wrote. “That will always be the legacy I carry with me.”
Rathanlal holds a Bachelor of Engineering in computer science and a Master of Business Administration in human resources management and information systems management from Madurai Kamaraj University. She completed the Certified Government Chief Information Officer program through Rutgers University in 2023.
