Bexar County Information Technology (BCIT) is slated to receive a $45.6 million budget, a $6.2 million increase over the previous year. The funding supports infrastructure, cybersecurity, end-user services and enterprise application support.
The department is also due to receive $92 million in funding for more than 30 capital improvement projects. The largest, a $27.3 million initiative known as Bexar 2.0, is intended to improve county employees’ and residents’ remote work capabilities through investments in IT infrastructure, automation, cloud-based document storage and more.
The next five largest projects by price tag are:
- Radio System Infrastructure and Equipment Upgrade — $25.5 million
- HR and Payroll System Replacement — $13.9 million
- Radio Replacement Cycle — $11.1 million
- PC Replacement Program (PCRP) — $5.4 million
- Digital Evidence Management System Replacement — $5 million
Outside BCIT, BiblioTech digital library system is budgeted for $5.9 million, which supports public-access computing, hot spot lending and tech-focused literacy programs.
The Justice of the Peace Technology Fund is proposed at $384,000 across four precincts to support software, hardware and IT services.
Last year, the Bexar County Commissioners Court approved the budget on Sept. 10.
