The National Telecommunications and Information Administration has recommended the city of Dallas and Denton Independent School District (Denton ISD) for a Digital Equity Competitive Grant.

The $1.25 billion grant program, one of three programs of the Digital Equity Act, provides funding to eligible public and not-for-profit entities for programs or proposals that address digital inequities.

Dallas has been recommended for an $11.1 million award for the implementation of a Digital Navigators program. The proposed program would provide covered populations with direct Internet assistance, financial coaching services, educational opportunities, a community center computer lab, digital literacy curriculum and digital equipment.

Denton ISD’s recommended $9 million award is for the funding of a full software tool suite capable of providing real-time insights into how students access digital resources, as well as digital audits, digital literacy training and workshops.

Funds from the program are awarded on a rolling basis.
