Brian Gardner, who was named the deputy CIO for the city of Austin in February, has served as the interim CIO for Dallas since former CIO Bill Zielinski retired from the public sector in April 2024. A city official confirmed that Gardner continues to serve as interim CIO for Dallas.
The chosen applicant will be responsible for leading the city’s Information and Technology Services Department and its five divisions: Business Application Management, Business Management Services, Enterprise Technology Optimization and Transformation, IT Security and Compliance Services, and Enterprise Infrastructure Services.
Other job responsibilities include:
- Developing the city’s IT strategy
- Planning and directing data processing
- Directing the operation of the city’s emergency dispatch systems
- Planning citywide radio and telephone communication systems
- Directing the operating budget
