The city of Mission has issued a disaster declaration following a cybersecurity incident in February.

In the city’s declaration, Mission Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza urged Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to declare a state of emergency for the city and “issue appropriate directives to deal with the emergency.”

The “immeasurable cybersecurity incident,” which was detected on Feb. 28, exposed the city’s computer server containing data held by all its departments to potential cyber attacks.

According to a catastrophe notice on the Texas Attorney General’s website, the citywide server and backups were encrypted by ransomware, locking personnel out of all records in every department.

Despite the server lockdown, Mission City Hall remains operational as of this writing.
