The city of Waco, Texas, is recruiting a CIO to lead technology modernization efforts, strengthen cybersecurity and support enterprise technology operations across the organization.

The city currently lists Assistant Director of IT Christie Acosta as interim director, but has not publicly stated when she assumed the interim role. Mike Searight has been described as the city’s CIO in public materials as recently as April; the job posting offers no further details on the transition.

According to the posting, the city is working with Strategic Government Resources to conduct the search. Waco is seeking a collaborative and forward-thinking technology executive with experience leading enterprise technology initiatives and organizational modernization efforts.

The ideal candidate, the city said, will have expertise in cybersecurity, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, geographic information systems (GIS), infrastructure planning and software integration. The CIO will also be expected to communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders while building collaborative relationships and delivering strong customer service across the organization.

Required education qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, computer science, information technology or a related field, along with six years of current experience in IT project management, network administration and technical support or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must also possess a valid Texas driver’s license and demonstrate the ability to lead enterprise technology operations in a complex organization.

Preferred qualifications include experience in municipal government or public-sector technology leadership, ERP and enterprise software implementation, systems integration, GIS and public safety technologies. Professional certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle or similar organizations are also preferred, as is experience in strategic planning, organizational change management and executive leadership.

The full-time position is based in Waco. The posting closes July 12.
