The city of Sugar Land is responding to a cyber incident that disrupted internal network infrastructure and temporarily disabled access to several municipal services, including online billing and permitting platforms.

In a statement published on the city's website, officials confirmed the breach occurred on Oct. 9, and have since launched an investigation in coordination with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. While critical infrastructure and emergency services remain fully operational, the city reported that internal systems supporting administrative and customer-facing functions were affected.

To mitigate the impact on residents, Sugar Land has temporarily suspended utility disconnections and late fees. The city also created a dedicated webpage for updates related to the incident, which it is using alongside official social media channels to communicate with the public.

Officials have not disclosed whether any sensitive data was compromised or provided specific details about the nature or origin of the breach. The statement assured residents that the city is “committed to maintaining services for our community” and is taking steps to ensure a safe restoration of affected systems.

The city has encouraged residents to check its website and social media pages for ongoing updates as the investigation continues and systems are brought back online.
