Denton Plans $45M for Capital IT Projects in Next 5 Years

The city has also increased its Technology Services Fund from $22 million to $25 million to account for four new positions.

The city of Denton plans to spend $45 million on technology-related capital improvement projects over the next five years.

According to the city’s 2024-25 adopted budget, technology services improvements alone make up $37.3 million of the projected spending, $5 million of which has been approved for this fiscal year.

These technology services capital improvement projects include:
  • $12.5 million for citywide fiber replacements
  • $9.7 million for radios and modems
  • $8.4 million for infrastructure replacements
  • $3.4 million for a new radio tower
  • $3.3 million for end-user computing
A new billing system is also listed as an upcoming project, but it has not yet been assigned any funding.

These projects in other departments make up the remaining tech-item funds:
  • $4.5 million for a new finance enterprise resource planning system
  • $1.3 million for water treatment plant supervisory control and data acquisition/human-machine interface upgrades
  • $750,000 for fiber installation at the city’s water treatment plants
  • $177,000 for cemetery software and ground-penetrating radar
  • $99,000 for sound system replacements
  • $55,000 for park Wi-Fi connections
The city has also increased its Technology Services Fund from $22 million to $25 million and added four positions: senior IT project manager, deputy director, IT training coordinator and GIS specialist.
