Department of Family and Protective Services Recruiting for Chief Data Officer

The role would report to the agency’s deputy commissioner and provide direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) is looking to hire a chief data and analytics officer to provide direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning within the agency’s Office of Data and Systems Improvement (ODSI).

Nathan Ezell, a deputy director for the agency, currently holds the position in an interim capacity.

Specific job responsibilities include establishing ODSI’s strategic plan, goals and objectives; establishing tools and methods of communicating data and related analysis; developing policies, procedures and guidelines; coordinating and evaluating program activities and business functions; reviewing and approving budgets within ODSI and communicating and presenting DFPS data to internal and external stakeholders.

Other essential job functions include:

  • Providing leadership and technical guidance for ODSI
  • Providing subject matter expertise, performance metrics and data regarding division operations to the deputy commissioner and agency executive leadership 
  • Guiding and consulting agency leadership in the development of division operations, major program reforms and initiatives statewide
  • Overseeing divisions, department budgets, reviews and approving major expenditures
  • Assessing division budget requests and expenditures to manage resources, needs and priorities 
  • Developing program budget information for division and agency leadership
  • Overseeing and managing the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of ODSI’s budget and major expenditures
  • Collaborating with the agency’s finance office to meet funding source requirements

Minimum requirements for the job include having an undergraduate degree and experience in state or federal policy analysis; writing briefing documents, white papers, position papers and policy analysis; amassing, analyzing and interpreting data and supervising staff for at least three years.

The position has a monthly salary range of $8,084 to $13,672. The job posting closes Nov. 13.
