The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) has announced the retirement of state Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Nancy Rainosek.
Rainosek, who joined DIR in 2013 as a program manager, has been the state CISO for nearly eight years. In total, her career in state government spans more than four decades.
She is credited with overseeing the implementation of various security protocols and initiatives, including the establishment of the state’s Regional Security Operations Centers (RSOCs). In 2020, Government Technology* named her to its annual Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers list.
In a press release, DIR Executive Director and state of Texas Chief Information Officer Amanda Crawford commended Rainosek for her dedication to public service.
“Nancy Rainosek is a celebrity in the state government cybersecurity community. She has established an incredible legacy as a public servant dedicated to the security of the state of Texas as well as mentoring and supporting her team,” said Crawford. “Both DIR and the state of Texas will continue to benefit from Nancy’s time as chief information security officer for years to come.”
Rainosek praised her team and expressed optimism for the state’s security going forward.
“It has been such an honor to serve DIR and the state of Texas as chief information security officer for almost eight years,” said Rainosek. “Though I am stepping down from the role, I know that I put together a strong team that will continue to improve the security maturity of the state of Texas and keep making me proud.”
Deputy CISO Tony Sauerhoff has been named as Rainosek’s replacement as CISO effective immediately. Rainosek will continue to serve as DIR’s executive cybersecurity strategist until her retirement in December.
