DPS Seeks Information on Gang Intelligence Index

The department's current index contains information on more than 80,000 gang organizations and members.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) has issued a request for information (RFI) regarding a cloud-based gang intelligence index.

According to the RFI, the department’s Texas Gang Intelligence Index (TXGANG) “currently hosts data from more than 550 law enforcement agencies across Texas with more than 5,000 users … contains over 80,000 organizations and members and interfaces with several other criminal justice and non-criminal justice systems.”

According to HB 1, DPS’ capital budget for the biennium includes $10 million for crime records service information technology, $22 million for advanced analytics and threat detection software and $1.4 million for application modernization.
