Family and Protective Services Will Search for a New Data Chief

Amberle Carter has left the chief data and analytics officer role after a year. She has not announced her next career move.

Amanda DeMars is serving as the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) interim chief data and analytics officer after Amberle Carter’s Aug. 14 departure from the role, according to an agency spokesperson.

Carter served as the agency’s data chief since August of last year and was previously the Department of Public Safety’s enterprise data officer, according to her LinkedIn profile.

DeMars is deputy director of the Office of Data and Systems Improvement. According to The Texas Tribune, she moved to DFPS in May from Texas Health and Human Services.

Applicants should look for a job advertisement in the coming weeks, the spokesperson said.

An agency chief data officer “performs highly advanced and/or supervisory data analysis and architecture work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning,” according to the state auditor’sjob description. The salary range is $106,712 to $180,475 per year.
