A third round of Emergency Connectivity Funding (ECF) has been released by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
According to the listing of funds promised and awarded in previous rounds, some 1,000 Texas schools and libraries have or will benefit. This round of awards totals $55 million across the U.S.
ECF funding has been made available to cover the costs of laptops, tablets, hot spots and other hardware to enable students, staff and library patrons to access the Internet off campus or at home.
By May, which was the third application deadline, the program had impacted some 12.5 million students and provided more than 10 million connected devices and 5 million connections, according to a news release.
To date, $5.9 billion has been awarded nationwide.
