Texas is slated to receive more than $8 million for FY2022 with a Nov. 15 application deadline; applications are to be made by a state’s administrative agency, which is then required to deliver 85 percent of the funds to local governments within 45 days of receipt.
The state will also be required to convene a statewide cybersecurity committee and to create a cybersecurity plan by September 2023 if there isn’t one in place.
Local governments may include:
- Cities, towns or townships.
- Counties.
- Municipalities.
- Local public authorities.
- School districts.
- Special districts.
- Councils of government.
Objectives of the funding include that governments:
- Develop and establish appropriate cybersecurity planning and governance.
- Understand cybersecurity posture and areas needing improvement.
- Implement protections appropriate to risks.
- Ensure personnel are trained in cybersecurity measures appropriate to job responsibilities.
Awards are expected by the end of the year, and additional amounts to be released include $400 million in FY2023, $300 million in FY2024 and $100 million in 2025.
