The city of Georgetown’s proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget outlines more than $28 million in technology-related spending, spanning department operations, utility system upgrades and capital investments tied to cybersecurity, fiber infrastructure and enterprise platforms.
At the core of the proposal is the IT Fund, which serves as the city’s internal service mechanism for shared technology services. The fund is slated for $18 million in expenditures. In addition to cloud tools and hardware, the fund maintains a $5.9 million capital reserve, which will be increased in coming years as the city prepares to migrate its data center.
The IT Department, which oversees IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud architecture, public safety technology and citywide end-user support, has requested $16.9 million. Of the department’s requested funding, $8.9 million is planned for software maintenance subscriptions and support services.
One large project featured in the one-year capital plan is $10.1 million for operational technology improvements in its electric utility, including SCADA, AMI and communications systems.
The City Council is expected to vote on the FY 2026 budget on Sept. 9 following public hearings and final review.
