Not that every penny will go toward IT — many of the projects are large and simply include technology as one of their line items. There are a total of 160 legislative appropriations requests (LARs) from 52 entities, including state agencies, boards and commissions, higher education institutions and courts.
The Legislature is in the process of crafting the state's two-year budget; these requests may be funded, unfunded or partially funded throughout the process.
The single largest request amounts to $809.7 million for the Health and Human Services Commission under the name "Integrity of Eligibility Determinations." The money would be used to help meet federal standards for timeliness on eligibility determinations for benefits programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and others. The IT components of the project are:
- Improvements to the Texas Integrated Eligibility Redesign System (TIERS)
- Changes to yourtexasbenefits.com and the corresponding mobile app
- Workload and technology improvements, possibly including new data sources or process changes
