The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) has released a request for proposals (RFP) for automatic vehicle locator (AVL) tracking services, hardware and software.

According to the RFP, H-GAC requires a contractor who can install GPS devices that will capture driving, operation and idling data from school buses and heavy-duty trucks across eight counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller.

The collected data must be made accessible via a customizable web-based platform with a graphical user interface displaying tracked vehicle locations.

H-GAC’s desired solution will be compatible with its existing equipment, but the council will consider submissions that provide considerable additional value.

A point person must be assigned to provide training to personnel, data communications, documentation, installation and system maintenance.

More detailed information about RFP No. TRN25-07, including all minimum requirements and requested services, can be found online. The deadline for questions is 12 p.m. April 14. Proposals are due by 12 p.m. May 15. Allison Cruz is the point of contact for this RFP.
