Olear joined IBM in 2012 as an intern with IBM’s Global Finance team and has spent her years since then with the tech company in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
“Katherine is a proud Texan through and through — and this role was made for her,” IBM Public Sector Director Jon Sesso told Industry Insider — Texas in a statement. “She brings unmatched knowledge of IBM, a magnetic presence clients gravitate to, and a level of hunger and heart we just couldn’t ignore. Out of 40+ candidates, she stood out not only for her qualifications, but for how much she wanted this — and how ready she is for it.”
Olear previously served as IBM’s principal manager for the U.S. public sector, specifically leading the company’s data/AI and automation businesses. Her IBM sales experience also includes the health care, retail and distribution sectors.
Olear holds a bachelor’s degree in computational and applied mathematics from Southern Methodist University.
“I’ve had the privilege of supporting the state in various capacities and am excited to bring that experience to lead this exceptional team,” Olear told Industry Insider — Texas. “As a fellow Texan, I’m especially proud to be part of this effort and to help strengthen the partnership between the state and IBM.”
