Huntsville recently discovered a “security incident” and is investigating with assistance from “cybersecurity and data privacy professionals,” according to the city website.

“Our goals right now are to remove any and all infections from our systems, make sure all devices are clean and restore functionality. We are working as quickly as we can to determine the scope and impact of the incident,” Monday’s website update reads.

The announcement indicated that services were impacted and that only cash or check payments could be taken at that time. The announcement hadn't been updated as of 4 p.m. Tuesday.

It’s unclear which systems were compromised when the initial notice, dated Oct. 21, was posted. The city website appeared to be functioning.

Huntsville has some 47,000 residents, according to its demographics dashboard.
