Inaugural Member Briefing to Feature Two Public-Sector Tech Leaders

Next month’s members-only event in Austin will feature the chief information officers of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The chief information officer for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be one of two speakers at the Industry Insider — Texas Member Briefing in September in Austin.

Next month’s event is the inaugural briefing for Texas insiders and features DMV CIO Wendy Barron and Tanya Acevedo, the senior vice president and CIO for Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CapMetro).

“Our in-person member briefings with key CIOs provide a unique opportunity to gain insight into their challenges, upcoming projects and priorities,” said Mike Driessen, publisher of Industry Insider — Texas. “I encourage our members to attend and take advantage of these intimate briefings.”

The DMV is a customer-focused agency providing services that include registration and titling for vehicles. Barron has served at the state level for more than two decades.

Acevedo returned to Texas this summer, taking the position of CIO for CapMetro. The Austin-based transportation system has a ridership of about 55,000 per weekday.

The briefing, which is open to Industry Insider — Texas members, is at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 23 at the Archer Hotel, 3121 Palm Way, Austin. More details, including registration information, are available online.

Member Briefings seek to spotlight those in state government who are familiar with agency IT needs and procurement. In October there will be a briefing with the CIO of Texas Health and Human Services, which has the largest IT budget in the state.
