Jayson Laban Named University of Texas Medical Branch CIO

The University of Texas Medical Branch has named Jayson Laban vice president and chief information officer.

Laban had served as interim vice president and CIO since Jan. 1. With the appointment now permanent, Laban will continue to oversee technology strategy and innovation while working to strengthen digital capabilities across the Galveston-based health system.


Laban has been with UTMB for more than six years. Before becoming CIO, he served as associate vice president and deputy CIO, where his work included IT strategy, cloud adoption, digital transformation, cybersecurity initiatives and AI and automation strategies. He previously served as director of infrastructure and systems operations at UTMB.

Before joining UTMB, Laban spent more than nine years at HCA Healthcare in roles including division director of operations, director of application services, director of technical services and manager of systems administration. His earlier experience includes management roles at Siemens IT Solutions and Services and Getronics.

Laban has more than 25 years of experience in health care and academic medical IT. His listed accomplishments include work on AI-driven platforms, cloud solutions, cybersecurity vulnerability reduction, Epic electronic health record security adoption and a large-scale Microsoft Teams migration.
