Killeen Budgets $2.5M+ for IT Capital Improvements

According to the city’s adopted capital plan, the funds will be used to upgrade its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and network hardware.

The city of Killeen has planned $2.5 million in funding for two major technology capital improvement projects in 2025.

According to the city’s adopted capital plan, the funds will be used to upgrade its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and network hardware.

The city has budgeted $950,000 for the EOC project, which will see the center equipped with a visual command and control system.

The remaining $1.5 million will be used to replace outdated server hardware and upgrade any related software at the end of its service.

Killeen is also planning a citywide PC replacement project to take place over the next four years, with $150,000 allocated to hardware modernization every year from 2026 until 2029.

The following are projects listed in other departments with potential tech components:
  • $2.4 million for traffic signal infrastructure upgrades
  • $553,000 for solar-powered warning siren additions
  • $300,000 to replace the police department’s server and storage solution
  • $250,000 for upgrades to audio and visual systems
  • $250,000 for a flood early warning system
