Kinnison Named San Antonio’s Interim Chief Innovation Officer

Kate Kinnison has been with the city for more than a decade, with the majority in the Office of Innovation.

Kate Kinnison is serving San Antonio as its interim chief innovation officer after having held various roles with the city.

Kinnison previously worked in the Office of Innovation from September 2012 until February 2019, according to her LinkedIn profile. She was most recently assistant to the director of human services and was the city’s R&D administrator from March 2019 to December 2022.

She has overseen the following in her tenure:

  • SASpeakUp, a website that brings together city information, meeting times and surveys
  • CivTechSA, a partnership that brought students and entrepreneurs together to use technology solutions to solve “civic challenges”
  • R&D League, a cross-sector initiative bringing data together to impact public concerns

The Office of Innovation has a $2.2 million budget and 11 full-time employees, according to budget documents.

Kinnison has worked in the Texas Legislature and in various political settings. She has a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs.
