Laake Has Officially Moved into Austin CIO Role

The capital city has made it official: Kerrica Laake will lead the city’s IT efforts. Laake has experience both in the city and with community-owned Austin Energy.

Kerrica Laake was named Austin’s city CIO in August after serving as interim since April.

Laake heads up Communications and Technology Management (CTM), which manages multiple programs and central services across the city.

She served as deputy CIO from October 2021 to March of this year and previously worked as an IT director at Austin Energy. She holds a communications degree from the University of Texas at Austin, according to her LinkedIn profile.

CTM provides IT to city departments and some entities in Travis County. Responsibilities include:
  • Communications and technology management
  • Wireless communication services
  • The Combined Transportation, Emergency and Communications Center (CTECC)
  • The Greater Austin/Travis County Regional Radio System (GATRRS)
Austin has about 975,000 residents and a 1.2 million daytime population, according to its demographic data hub.
